June 15, 2009
The CRS Racing team will be in Oschersleben in Germany this weekend to compete
in five races in two days. In addition to the two FIA GT3 races and the headline
FIA GT race, CRS’ leading Formula Renault rookie, Harry Tincknell, will
be running in two rounds of the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Championship.
Oschersleben was a good race for the CRS FIA GT team last year as it ended
with a podium finish for Andrew Kirkaldy and Rob Bell. A repeat performance
this year would be just the ticket as the pair suffered a rather lacklustre
Adria, after starting the season on the podium at Silverstone. Kirkaldy has
had pole position twice before at Oschersleben so he has high hopes for a good
race. In the No.55 GT2 Ferrari Chris Niarchos and Tim Mullen will be gunning
for top finish, and another Citation Cup victory for Niarchos.
The two FIA GT3 races will be as competitive as ever and the CRS GT3 drivers
will no doubt get stuck right in. Klaas Hummel had quite a dramatic initiation
into the world of GT racing at Adria when he was hit by another car and pushed
off the track in race one, and then raced in the dark for the first time in
race two. He and Chris Goodwin will race the No.55 GT3 Ferrari this weekend
and will be aiming to be top Ferrari in both races. Phil Quaife and Robert
Hissom will be hoping for a bit more luck this time around as Adria ended in
two retirements for the No.56 duo. Race two was the heartbreaker as Phil had
qualified in third place and was running well before he was forced to retire
with a technical problem. Watch out for those two this weekend, as they will
be working hard to get the top results.
CRS’ Harry Tincknell is currently leading the Formula Renault Graduate
Cup and as this is his first year in cars he wan! ts to gain as much experience
as possible, so he is competing in the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC races at Oschersleben
this weekend. Andrew Kirkaldy is going to have a busy weekend: racing in FIA
GT, advising in FIA GT3 and also making sure Harry is doing everything right
in Formula Renault.
“Adria was not a great race for us,” said Kirkaldy. “However
we have gone away and thought about the issues we had. We tested for two days
and have tried several different things with the car. We are confident we have
made a step forward and I am looking forward to getting on track on Friday.
It will again be a very busy race weekend for CRS and hopefully a successful
one!”
