News Archive » Zolder Qualifying October 18, 2008 Andrew Kirkaldy took pole position in the no.56 CRS Ferrari at Zolder today. This is his second pole of the 2008 season which brings his FIA GT pole position tally up to 12, a record for the Championship. In stark contrast, Tim Mullen had to settle for ninth when a driveshaft failure caused the no.55 CRS Ferrari to shed its left rear wheel as he turned into turn four. Luckily his warm up lap had been a good one so he still secured a top ten qualifying spot. “Everything went exceptionally well today,” said Kirkaldy. “We’ve had a good car for the last few races but it hasn’t gone our way; pole at Brno but then a first corner accident, and a fast car at Nogaro but Rob (Bell) was taken off by Montanari, twice! Hopefully we can go out and have a clean race tomorrow. It won’t be easy but Rob and I will give it everything we’ve got. I’m really happy to now have 12 FIA GT pole positions. This is only my third year in the Championship and I hope there will be many more years, and poles, to come.” “Well done to Andrew for getting his 12th pole,” said Mullen. “Unfortunately it has been a frustrating day for us. There was definitely a good lap time in the 55 car and I’m convinced we would have been right up there. James (Sutton) and I now have a lot of hard work to do tomorrow but we will try our hardest to come through the field.” The penultimate round of the 2008 FIA GT Championship starts tomorrow at 1315hrs (local time) and will be shown live in the UK on Motors TV.
