News Archive » Second Place for Mullen and Piccini October 6, 2008 Tim Mullen and Andrea Piccini steered the no.55 CRS Ferrari to a brilliant second place finish at Nogaro yesterday. Tim had qualified the car in third place and the pair put in a top performance, producing the best result of the season so far for car 55. “I'm really pleased with second,” said Mullen. “This is my first podium this year. Andrea's done a really great job. We were fast in practice. Even though the car doesn't feel fast on the new tyres, it handled great, the steering was wonderful. I caught up to Richard and Gimmi quite quickly in the first run actually. We had a really good chance at winning today. We were really quick and deserved to be on the podium.” Piccini continued: “We did a good job, the team did a brilliant job because we were consistent during the race. We weren't the fastest but we were consistent and quick, but it wasn't quite enough to give the car back over to Tim with a good lead. This was only my second race in GT2, so I'm quite pleased with the work I did and I hope there'll be more chances in the future to race here. The fights were good and the car was a pleasure to race.” Rob Bell and Andrew Kirkaldy were heading for third place but, with just two laps to go, Bell was hit by Montanari in the no.51 AF Corse Ferrari, and spun out. The stewards decided this was an avoidable accident and Montanari was given a 30-second penalty for his actions but it left Bell and Kirkaldy down in eighth spot, salvaging just one point from the race. Every point counts at the moment as CRS is creeping ever closer to the runner up spot in the teams’ championsh! ip, where just seven points separate BMS in second place and CRS in third. The team still has everything to play for and the next round is in just two weeks’ time at Zolder in Belgium. ENDS |
