The CR Scuderia GT team heads out to the Czech Republic this week, bound for
Brno, the venue for the seventh round of the 2008 FIA GT Championship. After
two strong victories last time out in Bucharest, the team is eager to get back
out on track and score more points in the quest for second place in the championship.
CRS now sits just eight points behind BMS Scuderia Italia so the fight is on
for the runner-up spot which would be an endorsement of all the hard work put
in by the CRS team in its first year of racing.
There is a clash this weekend between the FIA GT Championship and the Le Mans
Series. Rob Bell will be at Silverstone, driving in the 1000kms race, and the
CRS team didn’t need to look any further than the reigning FIA GT2 Champion,
Dirk Müller, to take Rob’s place alongside Andrew Kirkaldy at Brno.
Kirkaldy and Müller in CRS Ferrari no.56 will be a tough combination to
beat.
“It was great having Dirk on the team at Spa,” said Kirkaldy. “Especially
for a new team like CRS it is always positive to have input from other professional
drivers. There is no reason to believe that we won’t have a cracking
weekend at Brno. I’ve had some highs and lows at Brno but I really enjoy
the track and I hope we can bring home more points to help us get to that runner-up
position.”
Chris Niarchos and Tim Mullen, the drivers of CRS Ferrari no.55, are feeling
confident too, especially Tim who loves the Brno track and has always gone
well there.
“The first time I raced a Ferrari at Brno was in 2006 and I put it on
pole position,” said Mullen. “I was driving with Phil Bennett in
that race and we finished in fourth place. Last year I got pipped to pole by
Dirk Müller but, along with my team-mate Darren Turner, I got a podium
finish in third. This year it would! be great if me and Chris (Niarchos) could
get our first podium of the season at Brno.”
The FIA GT Championship returns to its normal format at Brno with practice,
pre-qualifying and qualifying on Saturday and a single two-hour race on Sunday
lunchtime.
