After too many wet weekends in the UK, the CR Scuderia team is off to Italy
this week for round three of the 2008 FIA GT Championship in Adria. Situated
50kms south of Venice, Adria International Raceway is a short, narrow and twisty
circuit that usually produces some close-fought GT races. Unique to Adria is
the fact that the race will run into the night on Saturday, instead of the
usual Sunday lunchtime affair.
Chris Niarchos is back onboard the no.55 Ferrari; the CRS Team Principal looking
forward to getting back behind the wheel where he will be joined by his regular
team-mate, Tim Mullen, who won at Adria the first time the series visited the
track in 2006.
Andrew Kirkaldy and Rob Bell are looking to get their Championship campaign
back on track after a troubled outing at Monza a few weeks ago. Kirkaldy took
pole position the last time he raced at Adria so that should stand the British
pair in good stead this time around.
CR Scuderia Ferrari no.55: Chris Niarchos & Tim Mullen
CHRIS NIARCHOS: “After what feels like an eternity it will be great to
be back with the GT2 team this weekend in Adria. I am really looking forward
to getting back in the car and racing myself after spending most of this year
as ‘Team Principal’ rather than driver. It has been fantastic watching
the team mature and the results we have achieved so far this year have been
extraordinary, considering how new we are. Although I have not driven at Adria
before I feel very fresh and after the time away I am ready to have a fantastic
weekend.”
CR Scuderia Ferrari! no.56: Andrew Kirkaldy & Rob Bell
ANDREW KIRKALDY: “Silverstone was good for us; it was a great start to
our international season and we really couldn’t have asked for more.
Monza was very disappointing. We never felt that we were on the pace during
the weekend and with no stable track conditions it was hard to put things right.
We hope we can get everything right at Adria. The Porsches will be strong there
but the track suited the Ferrari before so there’s no reason why we can’t
go out and get a good result. It would be good to have a dry weekend too.”
