News Archive » First Win for CR Scuderia
January 11, 2008
CR Scuderia took its first victory today, winning the ‘Racing 4 Charity’ kart
race, just 24 hours after launching the team in front of a large crowd at Autosport
International.
There were two teams racing on behalf of CR Scuderia in the charity event:
the CRS Ferrari team of Chris Niarchos, Andrew Kirkaldy, Rob Bell and Tim Mullen;
and the CRS Formula Renault team comprising new signings Adam Christodoulou
and Scott Jenkins, who were joined by Scott’s younger brother, Sam, and
Sten Pentus who tested for the team recently.
After over an hour of competitive and downright dirty racing it was the CRS
Formula Renault boys that emerged victorious, seeing off an intense challenge
from big names including Johnny Herbert, David Brabham, Gil de Ferran, Allan
McNish and Darren Turner.
Adam Christodoulou started the race in tenth position and fought his way through
and into contention for the lead within ten minutes. He soon breezed past the
leader and from that point on the team didn’t look back and took a dominant
win.
The CRS Ferrari team drivers had a bit of a tough afternoon and were thoroughly
beaten by their own CRS team-mates! “They’re all young lads and
we felt that it wouldn’t be fair to shatter their dreams and beat them
in the very first race of the year,” said Rob Bell with a wide smile
on his face.
On a more serious note the team won the £8,000 prize money for the Whizz-Kidz
charity so a successful afternoon was had by all.
