October 21, 2007
Scuderia Ecosse rounded off the 2007 FIA GT Championship season at Zolder
in Belgium today. Andrew Kirkaldy and Tim Sugden finished in sixth place with
Tim Mullen and Darren Turner close behind them in seventh. After a season of
hard, competitive racing the team ended the year in third place in the championship
standings.
Tim Mullen:
“The car felt really good at the start and I was able to catch Collard
easily. I had a good battle with him; the Porsche is faster on the straights
but we are quicker everywhere else, so I had to pile on the pressure and wait
for him to make a mistake. Once I got past him I then caught Lieb but had the
same problem getting past, staying behind him for a good 25 minutes. When I
got in for the final stint the car felt awesome, absolutely flying. I caught
Bruni easily but then there was a sudden change that felt like a slow puncture
which really affected our performance after that. We’re disappointed
to be seventh, especially after qualifying in second place.”
Darren Turner:
“Tim did a good job in the first part of the race. The car felt good
initially and I was able to do reasonable lap times and close in on (Rui) Aguas.
We struggled towards the end with tyre pick up and ultimately we’re disappointed
to finish where we did.”
Tim Sugden:
“Andrew did a great job at the start and it was looking really good for
us. After he handed over to me I struggled a bit with braking – as the
other drivers prefer a different brake set up to me - so I wasn’t as
fast as I would have liked to have been. Other than that though the car felt
good and the tyres were good so we’re disappointed not to finish higher
up the standings.”
Andrew Kirkaldy:
“I’m reasonably happy as during the first stint we were as fast
as the leader. I was running comfortably in second until a Maserati put me
onto the dirt and I dropped to third. We lost some time in the middle of the
race but during the final stint the car felt good. It’s a shame not to
finish the season on the podium.”
