July 7, 2007
Andrew Kirkaldy’s blistering 1:30.059 lap of Oschersleben this afternoon
has put him on pole position for the start of tomorrow’s FIA GT Championship
race. This is the tenth time the Scot has grabbed the top spot since his first
FIA GT pole at Silverstone in 2006; indeed his FIA GT pole position hit rate
has now reached an unprecedented 10 out of 12.
“I’m really pleased with that lap as we didn’t expect qualifying
to go quite so well,” said Andrew. “We had used a softer tyre during
the practice sessions which worked well but wasn’t right for the race.
We opted to take a harder tyre that we hadn’t really run on before for
qualifying so it was a gamble. It took a few laps to get up to temperature
but the third lap was the sweet one! I certainly can’t complain about
my record and now I’m looking forward to the good race that Chris (Niarchos)
and I are going to have tomorrow.”
The no.63 Niarchos/Kirkaldy Ferrari is followed by the two AF Corse Ferraris,
the Tech 9 Porsche and then the no.62 Ferrari qualified by Tim Mullen who is
racing with Jarek Janis this weekend.
