June 3, 2007
Scuderia Ecosse’s 2007 Le Mans 24 Hours campaign got off to a flying
start at a very sunny and hot La Sarthe track today. After completing a full
test programme Stewart Roden and his team declared themselves ready to race.
In the hands of Chris Niarchos, Andrew Kirkaldy and Tim Mullen, the no.87 Scuderia
Ecosse Ferrari finished the day fifth fastest in the GT2 class, behind three
Porsches and one of the Risi Ferraris.
“We’re definitely quick,” said Andrew Kirkaldy at the end
of the day’s running. “We were fastest by seven-tenths of a second
this morning and we’re confident that we can be as quick as the cars
ahead of us. We didn’t have an opportunity to run new tyres when the
grip level was at its best so there is more time to be had from the car. All
in all we’re in a good position and I’m pleased to report the new
air-conditioning works a treat!”
Team Principal, Stewart Roden, added: “We had a good day today. We were
quick, the drivers all performed well and we had no disasters! The tyres were
very good; we tried a few compounds and we were pleased with our findings.
We spent a lot of time drilling the team to make sure they are ready for every
eventuality in the 24-hour race. Some of the boys will go home now for a rest
and a few of them will stay out here to work on the car. We know we have a
tough Le Mans ahead of us and can see that the GT2 class is incredibly competitive
this year.”
The on-track action re-commences on Wednesday 13 June at 1900hrs when the
cars go out for the first session of qualifying for the 75th Le Mans 24 Hours.
