The 2006 British GT Championship has gone down to the wire and the title will be decided this weekend at Magny Cours in France. Chris Niarchos and Tim Mullen have won an incredible 10 of the 12 races so far this year but still need a good result at Magny Cours to clinch the title. The final two rounds of the 2006 British GT Championship are to be held within a French GT event so the British cars will have the added complication of GT1 cars around them and of course the French GT2 cars having their own separate battles. Chris Niarchos: “I like Magny Cours; it is fast and flowing and should suit us. I think it is crazy that the British Championship is being decided in the middle of an FFSA event and the last race of the season is in France, but that is how it goes. We have to go out there and do what we usually do: go fast and stay out of trouble!” Tim Mullen: “Magny Cours is a good circuit for us; it suits the Ferrari as it has some good high speed corners. Our plan is to go out there and win the first race which will give us enough points to take the Championship. Racing with the French GTs might be tricky as they’ll all be having their own battles but I’m sure we can have a fair fight with LNT and get this thing sewn up.” Stewart Roden, Scuderia Ecosse Team Principal: “Chris and Tim deserve to be British GT Champions so I hope they can go out there this weekend and get the job done. If the prize was awarded to the driver with the most enthusiasm then Chris would have been Champion years ago. He has developed so much as a driver, especially during this season where he has shown he can cut it at an international level. Tim has done a great job too, turning in many faultless drives over the course of the year. Between them they have won 10 out of 12 races so far this year so that makes them Champions in my book!” Scuderia Ecosse has 65 points to LNT’s 61. If Chris and Tim win race one and LNT finish second the scores will be Scuderia Ecosse 70, LNT 65. This will put the title out of LNT’s reach as even if they win race two and Chris and Tim fail to finish, the scores will be drawn and the title will go to Scuderia Ecosse as the team has won the most races in 2006.
