News Archive » FIA GT: Budapest Preview
September 26, 2006
Scuderia Ecosse’s gruelling schedule continues this weekend with the
next round of the FIA GT Championship in Hungary’s stunning capital city,
Budapest, affectionately known as ‘the Paris of the East’. The
Hungaroring, situated just north of Budapest, is best known as the host of
the Hungarian Formula One Grand Prix, which it has staged since 1986, in the
days when Hungary was still behind the Iron Curtain.
The track itself has been described as ‘Monaco without the barriers’ due
to its tight and twisty nature. It takes very precise driving to complete the
perfect lap here and the turn one tight right-hander could provide some drama
at the start. The circuit is situated in a natural amphitheatre so, unlike
many of today’s circuits, most of the track can be viewed from the back
of the Paddock.
The track is new to a lot of the drivers but this is no real disadvantage.
They have all seen it on television many times over! Good weather is expected
for this weekend so the team is looking forward to getting on track and getting
the job done.
