News Archive » FIA GT: Mugello September 11, 2006 The FIA GT Championship heads to Mugello this weekend, in the stunning Tuscan Hills in Italy, for round seven of the series. The Scuderia Ecosse team know that a win is what’s needed to keep the Championship hopes alive; a win on Ferrari’s home ground is also a special result for any team running the 430s so that is the target. Tim Mullen is back on duty with Scuderia Ecosse this weekend after an extremely successful outing at the Britcar 24hr race (9/10 Sept). He was invited to drive for the Red Bull BMW team and showed his usual flair by setting the team’s fastest lap en route to overall victory for the team. "Nathan Kinch (#62): “I’ve tested at Mugello a few times but in a Ferrari FXX and a Ferrari F1 car, rather than the 430. It’s a super, flowing circuit and it’ll suit the 430 beautifully. The bit you have to get right is the last corner as you need a good run onto the straight. We’ve got to win this one so we’ll have to go out there and throw everything at it!” Andrew Kirkaldy (#62): “I’m afraid all I know about Mugello is that it’s in Italy! Don’t worry though; I’ll know a lot more by the time we get there. It’s an important race for us as we need to win!” Chris Niarchos (#63): “Mugello is a great facility; I went there a few years ago but I haven’t driven on the full circuit. From what I know though it’s an amazing track; long and flowing with good speeds. I’m looking forward to it after our good result (2nd) at Dijon and I think we can definitely aim for the podium again and see if we can help Tim catch Andrew and Nathan in the points!” Tim Mullen (#63): “I haven’t been to Mugello before so I can’t wait to get out there and have a look. Chris and I had a great result at Dijon so we’ll be out for another podium this weekend. The more points we can get the better!” Stewart Roden, Team Principal: “Mugello is one of the best circuits in the world. It’s a technical track and physically demanding on the drivers, but the beautiful surroundings make up for the hard work. Ferrari had a terrific result at Dijon with a 1-2-3 and I hope they get the same at Mugello, but this time Scuderia Ecosse want the 1 and the 2!” The GT cars will take to the track at Mugello on Friday afternoon at 1430hrs. The race starts at the normal time of 1330hrs CET (1230hrs UK) on Sunday and will be shown live on satellite channel ‘Player’. ENDS |
