News Archive » Spa 24 Hours Qualifying July 28, 2006 Scuderia Ecosse will start the 2006 Proximus 24 Hours of Spa from pole position after Andrew Kirkaldy grabbed fastest lap during last night’s first qualifying session. Nobody beat his lap of 1:22.095 in the second night-time session or indeed in today’s final one so it’s four-out-of-four poles for the Scottish team. Andrew Kirkaldy: “It’s a good result for us. We didn’t do the Spa Test Day so we weren’t sure how we’d fare but we worked hard and the time was there so we’re very happy. It’s good to have Marino (Franchitti) in the car, along with Nathan (Kinch), making an all-Scottish line-up. The one advantage we have over the other Ferrari teams is that we’ve already completed a 24-hour race this year so we know what to do. It’ll be a close fight.” Tim Mullen: “Qualifying was ok for us and the car felt good. I had to overtake two cars on my qualifying lap last night but we’re up at the front so we just need to keep going and be there at the end. Allan (Simonsen) and Chris (Niarchos) are going well so I think we’ll be in a strong position for the race.” Stewart Roden, Scuderia Ecosse Team Principal: “We know that pole position isn’t the most important thing in a 24-hour race but it’s nice to have it all the same. I’m very happy as both the Scuderia Ecosse cars are near the front. We set the times early on and nobody beat us so that’s good. We were disappointed to see Porsche showboating with the new 997. I appreciate they’re in the G2 class but they’ve come along with big GT1 restrictors and a huge rear wing, but there you go. We’re looking forward to the race now; I’ll send the team off for an early night tonight as there’s a very long race ahead of us tomorrow.” ENDS |
