News Archive » Pole Position for the Scots! May 06, 2006 Andrew Kirkaldy took Scuderia Ecosse’s first ever FIA GT pole position at Silverstone today with a 2:02.734 lap in wet conditions. Tim Mullen qualified the sister Ferrari in third place (2:03.562), just behind Emmanuel Collard’s Ebimotors Porsche (2:03.069). Three more Ferraris – one from JMB and the two AF Corse cars – rounded out the top six for the start of tomorrow’s three-hour race. Team Principal Stewart Roden was naturally delighted with the result, not least as it showed the team had made the right decision to race with Michelin this year. “This is the best start to the FIA GT season we could have wished for,” said Stewart. “There’s a still a lot of work to do though and tomorrow’s race will be tough but it’s good to start as you mean to go on!” Speaking in the post-race press conference, Andrew Kirkaldy said, “The car was exceptional today. We hadn’t run on those tyres in the wet before so it was a nice surprise on the first lap out to realise I had so much grip! I did the time early on as we weren’t sure if it was going to rain again. We got thirteen pole positions last year (in British GT) and now we have the first one here so we’d like to keep that going if we can!” Tim Mullen was also pleased with the performance of the Ferrari 430. “We’ve all gone well here in every session so far, in all the different conditions, so we are feeling confident and looking forward to a great race tomorrow.” The 2006 RAC Tourist Trophy starts at 1330hrs tomorrow.
