Rounds: 5&6
Dates: 5/6 June 2004
The British GT Championship returns to the UK this weekend, specifically to Snetterton in Norfolk. There will be a new face to look out for at Scuderia Ecosse as regular driver Chris Niarchos is unable to race at Snetterton due to business commitments. Taking his place for rounds 5 & 6 will be none other than Rob Barff, a long time friend and associate of Chris’. Rob will partner Tim Mullen in Car #34 and, as Rob is a B category driver and Tim is an A, that car will now receive the full Pro-Am penalty of 25 seconds.
Stewart Roden, Scuderia Ecosse Team Principal
“We tested at Snetterton shortly after the race at Mondello and the cars went really well. The high speed circuits suit the Ferraris so we’re hopeful of a good weekend. Obviously we have the maximum penalty to contend with on both cars this time out but that’s out of my hands, we have to make the best of what we have got. Overall we need solid finishes for both cars in both races and if we can’t get the wins we want the podium.”
Car #35 – Ferrari 360 GTC:
Andrew Kirkaldy
“Snetterton has been a good circuit for me over the years as I’ve always had good results there. I haven’t driven the 360 GTC there but Nathan (Kinch) drove it there recently and said it felt very good. Obviously I’m hoping for a good weekend but we’ll have to wait and see how we go when we get there.”
Nathan Kinch
“This circuit will definitely suit us better than Mondello so I’m optimistic for a good result at the weekend. We tested the car here just after Mondello so had the opportunity to play around with various set-ups and learn how the car reacts to the circuit. We were pleased with the test and hope to still feel that way after the races!”
Car #34 – Ferrari 360 GT:
Tim Mullen
“We tested at Snetterton recently and the car went really well. I’ve got a new team-mate for the weekend (Rob Barff) which will be interesting, although with Rob being a ‘B’ category driver we’ll be on the receiving end of the maximum penalty. If I can stay close to Andrew and Rob stays close to Nathan then we have a good chance to fight for podium places but I think it will be hard to beat (Tim) Sugden and (Jonathan) Cocker. It will be an interesting weekend.”
Rob Barff
“I met Chris (Niarchos) at Silverstone a few years ago and since then he has become a good friend and a personal sponsor. This made me the logical choice to replace him when he realised the Snetterton race clashed with his business commitments. I work with Tim (Mullen) at Silverstone and he’s a good friend so I’m very excited to be his team-mate for the first time this weekend. I’m delighted to be teaming up with a professional outfit like Scuderia Ecosse who, in their first year of GT racing, have shown themselves to be one of the best teams out there.”
